CTA Pin Circa: 1930 Rare Cowboy Turtle Association pin. Sterling, with image of turtle and CTA. The Cowboy Turtles were a group of cowboys who joined together, as if a union, to protest the meager wages they earned compared to the huge amounts made by rodeo promoters. This is the precursor to the RCA (Rodeo Cowboys Association), which later became the PRCA. The members referred to themselves as turtles because they "stuck their necks out". It's also rumored to have been a reference to the turtlenecks popular amongst cowboys at the time. Most of the pins found are in copper, but since there was no regulation in the cowboy turtles, a member could order their pin in whatever medium he desired. 1" across. Price: $500.00 |
