"Ski Ride" Tin Toy

Circa 1935-40

"Ski Ride" tin sledding toy circa 1935-40. Made by Chein & Co. U.S.A. In working order albeit in need of some fine tuning. Skiers/sledders ride down the "hill" and are picked up at the bottom and deliverd to the top for another run. 19.5" long by 9.5" high and 8" wide.

Sun Valley Ski Lithograph

"Baldy Mt.Roundhouse"

Circa 1940

In 1970 Toni Frissell donated to the Library of Congress a massive collection of photographs, negatives, and manuscripts documenting her distinguished photographic career of nearly forty years. While Frissell photographed subjects as diverse as the Berlin Wall and the 1968 Republican National Convention, she is perhaps best known for her pioneering fashion photography and her informal portraits of the famous and powerful in the United States and Europe, including Winston Churchill, Eleanor Roosevelt, and John and Jacqueline Kennedy. She was a staff photographer for Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and Sports Illustrated, and published photographically illustrated versions of A Child's Garden of Verses (1944), [Bermuda]:The Happy Island (1946), Mother Goose (1948) and The King Ranch, 1939-1944 (1975). This Litho was probably a Sports Illustrated shoot. 20" by 16" matted & framed in archival setting; actual 13" by 11". Litho has dark acid mark around edge, and places where original owner attempted to mask title and signature. Image itself is in excellent condition.

Gortex Jackson Hole Ski Outfit

Circa1970's

 

Among the first to use Gortex, the Rocky Mountain Featherbed Co. was a Jackson Hole Business. Clothing was designed with our Western roots in mind, therefore the yolk over the shoulders and the protective patches at the inside bottom of each leg are leather. Powder blue with with Chamois colored leather. Says size 7-8, but more like a size 3.

A pair of bookends made of a polychrome metal with brass and enamel coating. 3.75" by 2.5" wide, and 6" to the top of ski pole. Extremely rare (one shown in photo but there are two).

Penguin Skis

Circa 1960's

 

Little blue skis with cable bindings and only one boot - we picture the kid coming out of the boot and giving up entirely on the ski lessons. Penguin brand name labels on tips. Skiis are 35" by 2.5", and poles are 40". Poles also have blue wraps around the tops to match the skis.

Skiing - The International Sport

A very large book with many plates in black and white and color, showing all of the major ski areas in the world, the history, and the great skiers to date. A wonderful chapter on the creation of FIS, and praise for the fledgling American skiers - including Jackson Hole's Betty Woolsey, who quite impressed the Europeans with her skill.This is one of only 950 copies printed.

Child's Pull Sled

Circa 1920

 

This child's sled is a true classic. With a swinging back for comfort, it was made for a smooth ride. Metal bolts appear to have been the only restoration on this otherwise original sled. There is a lot of red paint remaining on the metal runners. 32" long by 12" wide and 16" high.

Hard to find, with mechanical brakes and wooden steering wheel. Fun...probably pre-WWII. Stout construction of iron and wood throughout. Brakes are functional, steering a little loose - use at your own risk! 56" long.

Fantastic little book on how to ski - "This book is an attempt to simplify Ski-ing for beginners, to provide the novice with instructions that can be read and digested in a very short time. It contains a clear, concise and lucid description of all the Ski-ing turns necessary to qualify for the British Second Class test." Victory - V Lozenges Tin

Circa 1930

 

Victory V is a British brand of liquorice-flavoured lozenges. Originally manufactured in Nelson, Lancashire they were devised by Thomas Fryer and Edward Smith MD in the mid-1800s and were initially made by hand to ensure that each sweet contained the correct amount of therapeutic ingredients; ether, liquorice and chloroform. Victory V lozenges are available in specialist shops and online, but no longer contain chloroform or ether. Today they are manufactured by Ernest Jackson & Co. Ltd. in Devon. 3.25" in diameter by 1".

A great pair of early skis with leather and metal cable bindings. The bindings are a later upgrade to older skis. This pair also comes with wooden vise holders with metal wingnuts, and a pair of bamboo poles with laced leather and metal baskets. Skis 73 1/4" and poles are 56", (maybe we should be measuring these in centimeters!). Circa 1900.
