Yellowstone in 1911. The photo on top of the front cover is an
image of the first version of the hotel. Inside the front cover
is the second version. At the bottom of the front cover is the
final version of this magnificient hotel. Brochure includes fascinating
photos of horse teams pulling sleds through snow with all manner
of supplies. Other photos show off the interior of the building,
such as the Lobby, Lounge and Dining Room. Tucked away in the
back is a sheet of Hotel Stationery. Sadly, as newer hotels were
being constructed in the late 1950's, the Old Canyon Hotel was

Vintage National Parks Poster Circa: 1930 Original serigraph poster for National Parks Winter Sports
by Dorothy Waugh, circa 1930. This was a WPA
production and includes Waugh's name at the bottom. With a black
background, the poster uses blue, white, pink and puce shadowing.
Waugh's style was obviously influenced by the great advertising
artists in Europe at the time, making her work look more modern
than typical American commercial art. Dorothy Waugh studied at
the Chicago Art Institute. After graduation, she worked in a
commercial art studio in Chicago. Upon relocating to New York,
she was manager of the children's book department at Alfred A.
Knopf. In addition to her work at Knopf she was production supervisor
of the National Park Service as well as doing copy, layout and
artwork. In the late 1930's she was appointed special lecturer
and critic to the New York School of Fine and Applied Art. While
there she also taught typography and design. (Biography courtesy
Dr. Leslie Project). Poster is over 40" high and 27 1/2"
wide; framed in conservation environment. Poster is mounted on
original masonite board. In very good to excellent condition
(note that the discoloration in the top left and top center is
a reflection off the glass). Price: $3,900.00 |

Blackfeet Indians of Glacier National Park Circa: 1938 This packet of Blackfeet Indian portraits is a true find! It is very rare to find a packet of these brochures altogether within their original mailing envelope. Weinhold Reiss, the official artist of the Great Northern Railway, painted Blackfeet scenes for the Railroad and worked together with Frank Linderman, historian, to create these great images and text. Reiss came to the United States and wanted to paint indians. He eventually made his way to Montana's Blackfeet country and he began making friends with this group. He made a name for himself as a great Indian-associated artist. He later came to know Frank Linderman, who was a Montana lover as well, and the two paired up to compile brochures of the people and area with great essays and paintings. In near original condition with 24 images, and a 12-page booklet by Linderman of the history of the Blackfeet. Price: $125.00 |
