Bucking Horse Heaven

The bucking bronco has been an enduring icon of the west, probably because nothing so succinctly evokes the untamed west like a pitching horse. These effervescent equines have been used to promote books, magazines, wild west shows, rodeos, and films. To this day, items featuring a bronc are more popular than similar items without the spirited horses. Keep tuned...more bucking things are coming soon!

Cowboy Radio Lamp

These lamps were popular in the 1930's and 1940's when radio cabinets were large pieces of furniture, and it was sometimes necessary to have a little light thrown on the controls. The style eventually morphed into "TV Lamps" - something decorative to sit atop the large box when it wasn't on. This one is a fantastic Art Deco cowboy on bucking bronc, who is backlit by a bulb hiding behind a gorgeous piece of yellow slag glass. The cowboy is made of chalkware, with painted details.

The Horse Fighter

Circa 1906, Montana

Dramatic, hand-colored photograph; original negative by L.A. Huffman. Huffman is considered to be one of the best chroniclers of western life as it truly was. He shunned studio photography, favoring candid shots of the large trail herds coming into Montana. This photograph was produced by
Huffman and colored by his daughter. This is one in a series that Huffman captured of bronc breaking--an amazing sequence of photographs considering the equipment he was using. It appeared as one of the images in a Scribner's Magazine article written by Huffman in July, 1907, entitled "The Last Busting at the Bow-Gun." Cayuse has obtained a copy of the magazine with the entire article and supporting images. Huffman's daughter frequently assisted him with coloring the photographs. Framed in a conservation setting with UV glass.
Size: Approx. 11" H x 13 3/4" W.
