Child's Tipi Circa: 1885 Rare Sioux child's Tipi circa 1885. Believed to have been an actual toy it due to the wear and the size. The tipi combines quillwork and beading: the sides have quilled cornstalks that appear to be topped with morning stars, there are beaded roundels, and beaded horizontal striping up the back. Although one side is quite faded it is possible to see some of the original bright red quilling on the other side. The tie tassles also had quill work with a few remaining. There are 4 beaded medallions with old yellow, copper brown and red beads. The back has 17 rows of cobalt blue beaded stripes each with 3 rows of clear pink beads in the middle. The tipi poles may be original based on their patina, but have been reinforced over the years with everything from wire to new sinew. This is a wonderful piece. Price: on request stock#defau...964 |
