Child's Tipi
Circa 1885

Rare Sioux child's Tipi circa 1885. Believed to have been an actual toy it due to the wear and the size. The tipi combines quillwork and beading: the sides have quilled cornstalks that appear to be topped with morning stars, there are beaded roundels, and beaded horizontal striping up the back. Although one side is quite faded it is possible to see some of the original bright red quilling on the other side. The tie tassles also had quill work with a few remaining. There are 4 beaded medallions with old yellow, copper brown and red beads. The back has 17 rows of cobalt blue beaded stripes each with 3 rows of clear pink beads in the middle. The tipi poles may be original based on their patina, but have been reinforced over the years with everything from wire to new sinew. This is a wonderful piece.

Sioux Infant Moccasins

Circa 1885

Tiny ceremonial moccasins, beaded on the tops and bottoms. Greasy green, red white-hearts, cobalt, and white beads are present. The long tongues are beaded at the tips, and the buffalo track design indicates that these were a boy's. There is some bead loss on one of the tongues, as well as on the bottom of each foot. They are somewhat stiff, but the leather is in good condition. Possibly buffalo hide. This is a really nice pair. 4" long.

Circa 1880

This is an early piece, probably Ute, and rare. This small "otter tail" bag has early blue beads, with red white-heart design, and ruby red (Kiowa red) edge beads. This was used by a child, as opposed to a tourist's miniature souvenir.
