Early California Hat Rare early California hat made by Konrad Meussdorffer, San Francisco. In the open-crown Vaquero style, with bound brim and matching gros-grain ribbon, the fawn-colored hat has the original leather sweat-band with gilt stamping reading "K. Meussdorffer & Son, No. 8 Kearny St., San Francisco, Cal". A reference is made to Konrad in the Encyclopedia of San Francisco, stating that he immigrated in 1865 from Germany and was in the business of importing and making hats. His son went on to become a prominent San Francisco architect, and his granddaughter became a noted artist. Given its age, it's in excellent shape. There are some dimples in the crown, quite possibly from someone trying to give it a more "up to date" look. Very small - approx. 6 1/2". This is a great find. Price: $1,800.00 |

Bismarck Diamond Jubilee Hat Great hat from Bismarck, North Dakota, 1936. The hat celebrates the city's Diamond Jubilee with drawings and autographs. Some of the signatures are faint due to the fact that the hat was worn. Others are legible. One signature reads "William M. Baska, Decorator" - presumably the one who drew the bronc rider and the Diamond Jubilee scene on the hat. Baska was an illustrator whose work appears in at least one book on the big game of North Dakota. The hat itself is a rarity: an "Official Tim McCoy (Columbia Star) Vigilante Hat" by A. Rosset Co. - presumably marketed by Columbia Studios. Very small size (6 5/8), and 3" brim. Price: $475.00 |

Early Sioux Cowgirl Gauntlets Amazing work and condition. Fully beaded around the entire cuff - the inside wrists are a lighter blue background with morning star crosses, and the outer wrists are deeper blue, with geometric main elements, and morning stars scattered around them. Floral beadwork on the hands adds a nice touch. Fringe runs down the sides, as well as all the way around each wrist. Red silk edging is at the top. They are unlined; interestingly, one cuff has green ochre coloring the inside of the leather. The brass beads are in great condition and consist of the typical faceted variety, as well as a round brass bead with spiral grooves. Small size indicates these were surely for a woman.
